On going regular hula classes are currently offered. These classes include the ancient kahiko form of hula as well at the more modern style. Students begin by learning the traditional basic steps and movements of hula, progressing to the ancient dances ( kahiko ), as well as learning the dances of the other islands of the Pacific (Tahitian, Maori Poi, Samoan Fire Dance). Many of our students are not from Hawaii or of Hawaiian ancestry. This class is open to men, women and children age 6 and up and no prior dancing experience is required or expected.
What To Bring: Wear comfortable clothes ( shorts, capris, sarongs, etc.), jeans are not permitted. You will be dancing barefoot.
What You Will Learn: All the basic modern hula steps, Traditional hula choreography, Modern hula choreography, Body awareness, balance and control, How to express emotion through your body, and Tahitian, Maori, Samoan dances.

Joining The Halau: If you are ready to make hula an important and ongoing part of your life, your next step is to join the Halau. All Halau members are expected to have an increased level of commitment, appreciation, and respect for the Pacific Island cultural practices, and a willingness to learn and follow Halau protocols. Once you feel you are ready, make an appointment for a personal interview with Ke Po'o Francesca Anching Trego.
Halau members are required to pay monthly dues that include 12 classes per month at their developmental level. Dues are collected in the first class of each month in advance. Advancement from one level to the next is determined by Ke Po'o Francesca according to each student's level of attainment and speed of learning.
